A court has ordered a deputy from Kursk Oblast to return 2.6 million rubles she received as compensation for homes destroyed during shelling. This was reported by the press service of Kursk Oblast courts on November 13.
The Glushkovsky District Court ruled that one of two decrees issued by the Tetkino village administration, granting compensation to deputy Lyudmila Shashenkova for her destroyed homes, was unlawful and canceled it. She is now required to return 2.6 million rubles to the Kursk Oblast budget.
The prosecutor's office approached the court in July 2024, demanding Shashenkova return 6.8 million rubles she received as compensation for two apartments in Tetkino, which were damaged in the shelling. The agency argued that the payouts were unlawful since, according to the law, compensation is only meant for individuals who permanently reside in the affected homes. Shashenkova is registered and lives in Kursk. Furthermore, such payouts are only allowed once.
In 2021, Lyudmila Shashenkova became the richest deputy of the Kursk City Council, declaring an income of 163 million rubles. According to the media outlet Ploshchad, she owns a company that provides meals to schools and summer camps.
